In this particular case I\u2019m taking apart an HP Pavilion dv6700 notebook.<\/p>\n<p>I believe this guide will work for some other models in the Pavilion dv6000 line.<\/p>\n<p>You can use these instructions for removing and replacing all main notebook components.<\/p>\n<p>If you need spare parts for HP Pavilion dv6500\/dv6600\/dv6700\/dv6800 notebooks, you can&nbsp;<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/rover.ebay.com\/rover\/1\/711-53200-19255-0\/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Pavilion+dv6700+parts&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3DPavilion%2Bdv6700%26_sacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.m270.l1313%26_odkw%3DPavilion%2Bdv6000%26_osacat%3D0\" target=\"_blank\">search here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Turn off the notebook and unplug the AC adapter.<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 1.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remove the battery.<\/p>\n<p>Remove four screws securing the hard drive and memory (RAM) covers. Remove both covers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove battery memory hard drive cover\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-02.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 2.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lift up the right side of the hard drive assembly to disconnect it from the motherboard.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the hard drive assembly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove hard drive assemble\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-03.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 3.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remove both memory (RAM) modules.<\/p>\n<p>Disconnect two antenna cables (black and gray) from the wireless card. Remove two screws securing the wireless card to the motherboard. Remove the wireless card.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, in this step you can access the CMOS (RTC) battery.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove memory RAM wireless card\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-04.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remove one screw securing the CD\/DVD drive to the laptop base.<\/p>\n<p>Pull the CD\/DVD drive from the notebook and remove it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove CD\/DVD optical drive\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-05.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 5.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remove all screws from the bottom of the notebook.<\/p>\n<p>Do not forget:<br \/>&#8211; three screws in the CD\/DVD drive bay (yellow).<br \/>&#8211; one screw in the hard drive bay (green).<br \/>&#8211; two hex studs under memory slots (orange). Use 3\/16 nutdriver.<\/p>\n<p>Mark all removed screws somehow so you don\u2019t forget their location when assemble the notebook back together.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove screws from bottom\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-06.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 6.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Carefully lift up the right side of the power button board cover.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Lift up power button cover\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-07.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are two cables connected to the motherboard. We\u2019ll disconnect these cables after removing the keyboard in the STEP 8.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Cables connected to power button board\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-08.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 7.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now, when the power button board cover separated from the laptop case, you can remove the keyboard as it shown on the picture below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Lift up keyboard\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-09.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 8.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Carefully disconnect the keyboard cable from the motherboard.<\/p>\n<p>For more detailed keyboard removal instructions please follow&nbsp;<a title=\"Remove keyboard from Pavilion dv6000\" href=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/take-apart-hp-pavilion-dv6000-laptop\/\" target=\"_self\">this guide for HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These instructions should be identical for HP Pavilion dv6500, dv6600, dv6700, dv6800 notebooks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Disconnect keyboard\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-10.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 9.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Disconnect two cables running from the power button boar cover.<\/p>\n<p>There are no locks on these connectors. Simply pull both cables from connectors.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Disconnect two cables\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-11.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 10.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Turn the cover upside down and disconnect one cable from the power button board.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Disconnect power button board\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-12.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 11.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remove the cover.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove cover\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-13.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 12.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Disconnect the video cable connector from the motherboard.<\/p>\n<p>This connector is located close to the left display hinge.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Disconnect video cable from motherboard\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-14.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 13.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pull both wireless card antenna cables through the opening in the top cover. Unroute both antenna cables.<\/p>\n<p>Remove two screws securing the display assembly hinges.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove screws from display panel\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-15.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 14.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lift up and separate the display assembly from the notebook base.<\/p>\n<p>In one of the previous posts I explain&nbsp;<a title=\"Remove LCD screen\" href=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/remove-replace-lcd-screen-inverter-hp-pavilion-dv6000-laptop\/\" target=\"_self\">how to disassemble the display assemble and remove the LCD screen<\/a> from an HP Pavilion dv6000.<\/p>\n<p>These instructions should be identical for HP Pavilion dv6500, dv6600, dv6700, dv6800 notebooks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove display assemble\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-16.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 15.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remove five screws securing the top cover assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Disconnect the touch pad cable from the motherboard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove screws from top cover\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-17.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 16.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Start separating the plastic cover from the notebook base. You can use a piece of soft plastic (I\u2019m using a guitar pick) to separate the cover from the base.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Separate plastic cover\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-18.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The cover has been removed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove cover\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-19.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 17.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Separate the top cover assembly from the notebook base.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Lift up top cover assembly\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-20.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Again, as a case cracker I\u2019m using the same guitar pick.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Separate top cover from base\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-21.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 18.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remove the top cover assembly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove top cover assembly\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-22.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The top cover assembly has been removed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Top cover removed\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-23.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 19.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Disconnect the Bluetooth module cable from the motherboard.<\/p>\n<p>Remove two screws securing the Bluetooth module.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the module.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove Bluetooth module\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-24.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 20.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remove four screws securing the express card slot.<\/p>\n<p>Slide the slot board to the right and disconnect it from the motherboard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove express card slot\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-25.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 21.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is only one screws securing the motherboard to the notebook base.<\/p>\n<p>Remove these screw.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove one screw from motherboard\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-26.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 22.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Start removing the motherboard as it shown on the picture below.<\/p>\n<p>When the motherboard is lifted up, disconnect one cable from the audio board.<\/p>\n<p>There are two more cables connected to the motherboard and we\u2019ll remove them in the next step.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" 23.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Turn the motherboard upside down and disconnect two more cables.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Disconnect power connector board cables\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-28.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 24.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The motherboard has been removed.<\/p>\n<p>The audio board and power connector board are still connected to the notebook base.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Motherboard removed\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-29.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 25.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Loosen four screws securing the cooling assembly (heat sink and fan) to the motherboard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove screws from heat sink\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-30.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 26.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lift up and remove the cooling assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Now you can access the processor (CPU).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Remove cooling fan assembly\" src=\"http:\/\/www.insidemylaptop.com\/images\/HP-Pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800\/laptop-disassembly-31.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this model the power connector (DC power jack) is not soldered directly to the motherboard.<\/p>\n<p>The power connector is mounted on a separate board.<\/p>\n<p>If the power connector fails, you can&nbsp;<a title=\"Replace broken DC power jack\" href=\"http:\/\/www.laptoprepair101.com\/laptop\/2007\/12\/06\/dc-power-jack-repair-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">desolder it from the board and replace with a new one<\/a> or replace the entire power connector board.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Power connector DC jack board\"
